SurfingFrigate Passage is a powerful left-hander that breaks over a relatively smooth coral reef. The wave can hold up to a solid tripple over-head, and rearly does it drop below head-high. Rides of 100 meters or more are not uncommon.
With the prevailing south-easterly trade winds blowing off-shore, and it's exposed position to southern ocean swell, Frigate Passage is one of the most consistant surf spots not only in Fiji, but also the South Pacific. Offshore in any easterly quater wind, Frigate Passage breaks in any southerly quater swell, and breaks well through all tides. Frigate Passage is one of the worlds premier surf breaks, and Batiluva Beach Resort provides the best means available for surfers to enjoy the uncrowded, quality waves. Our deep water beach allows our boats to depart for Frigates at any tide. Normally you'll be surfing by 8.30am, and a packed lunch on the boat means you can stay at the reef and surf all day.* FishingThe boat ride to and from the reef provides a great opportunity to troll for a wide variety of game fish. Often you'll return from the surf with a catch of Yellow-Fin Tuna, Mahi-Mahi, Spanish Makeral (Walu), Trevali or Wahoo. (Please bring your own lures.) *Departure & return times are decided among surfers. |
